If you are VAT registered, your invoices must include:

  • Your business name and address
  • Your VAT registration number
  • Invoice date and a unique invoice number
  • Customer's name and address
  • Description of the goods or services
  • Total amount excluding VAT

Even if you are not VAT registered, a professional invoice should include most of these details.

Tips for getting paid faster#

  1. Invoice immediately. The day the job is done, not the end of the month.
  2. Make payment easy. Bank details on the invoice, or a card payment link.
  3. Set clear terms. 14 days is standard for domestic work.
  4. Follow up promptly. A friendly reminder at day 7 helps.
  5. Keep records. Track what is paid and what is outstanding.
